14 DAY TRIAL // Oh man, just when you think something can't get any better, you find out that Hearthstone's getting some neat single-player adventures.
Granted, the card game is a bit on the casual side and can't stand up to Magic: The Gathering, the be-all end-all of all card games in the Universe, but it's still a genuinely fun and balanced game.
And now, the highly anticipated single-player Adventure Mode has been officially unveiled by Blizzard. Also, there might be reports of snow somewhere in Hell, since the company's trademarked "coming soon" announcements usually take a couple of centuries to actually happen.
Enough with that, for today at the PAX East convention in Boston, the first Hearthstone Adventure has been revealed: prepare for the Curse of Naxxramas!
The ancient necropolis of Naxxramas has served as a base of operations for the almighty lich Kel'Thuzad and his undead minions for a long time, and now it's coming to Hearthstone in a new single-player PvE adventure that anyone can take part in.
Progress through one of the five unique wings of the dungeon and gain new cards for your Hearthstone collection by defeating the icon bosses we all hated during World of Warcraft's impossible vanilla phase.
Prepare to take on Maexxna, the overgrown arachnid and Loathed, the fungal horror, and even the shambling abomination that is Patchwerk, and much, much more. Each boss has their own unique cards and Hero Powers, and they'll prove to be a challenge to even the most seasoned card jockeys out there.
Progressing through the Curse of Naxxramas will net you some sweet rewards, in the form of some all-new Hearthstone cards that you can add to your collection and use in your decks right away. And not just a few, but a total of 30 powerful cards await for you to unlock them and then use them in taking down your opponents. Have a look at some of the new cards in the gallery below.
Players who manage to complete all wings will get a guaranteed reward consisting in a new Legendary card.
To make the whole thing even better, the Curse of Naxxramas adventure will have its own unique game board, with new interactive corners for players to explore.
On top of it all, there are nine unique Class Challenges that await in the Curse of Naxxramas, all of them putting a difficult twist on the existing encounters within the adventure and testing your skills in wielding the classes. Should you prove successful in overcoming the Class Challenges, you will be rewarded with some nice class-specific cards.
The Curse of Naxxramas is scheduled to open its gates to Hearthstone players over the course of five weeks, opening wing by wing. The first one will of course be the Arachnid Quarter, and if players wish to venture further into Naxxramas to collect all of the new cards, each wing besides the Arachnid quarter can be purchased with either in-game gold OR with real money.
As each new wing is released, the cards available in each of them will also show up in the pool of Arena picks, even if you have not yet earned them for your personal collection.
The Curse of Naxxramas is planned for release simultaneously for PC, Mac and iPad, and the release date will be announced at a later time.
