"You're better than you think!" Blizzard states

Blizzard has released some fun stats regarding the distribution of competitive players in its free-to-play card battling video game Hearthstone.

The newest Hearthstone-related blog entry from the famed developer addresses some concerns from many of the game's players, showing that a large fraction of the user base feels that it's not doing a good enough job of climbing the ranks of Ranked Play mode.

Blizzard's collectible card game is pretty competitive, your main gameplay interaction being trying to defeat other players with your own custom-made deck of 30 cards from throughout the extensive Warcraft universe.

It's lonely at the top

"Recently, we've seen some comments from our players that feel they are not performing well in Ranked Play compared to others, or disappointed by the fact that they haven't hit Legend rank. We're here to let you know that you're actually doing better than you think!"

"In fact, most of Hearthstone's Ranked Play players lie between Ranks 25 and 15. Many players aspire to acquire the unique Hearthstone card back each season that awaits at Rank 20. Even going from Rank 20 to Rank 15 is an impressive feat," the blurb reads.

The company has revealed that the coveted Legend rank is home to less than 0.5 percent of Hearthstone players, and only the most competitive, talented and determined individuals can aspire to ever achieve it.

A few days ago, Blizzard informed that over 20 million people registered to play its free-to-play card slinging bonanza, which means that out of that impressive number, only an incredibly small fraction ever got to the Legend rank: less than 100k people.

Three quarters of the players are ranked 25 to 15

Furthermore, the company's data reveals that over 75 percent of players are situated between ranks 25 to 15, and that it takes a lot of trial and error and learning to go beyond that, in addition to a great deck, which might explain why you're not doing as well as Trump, even when you're using his own selection of cards.

Only 7.5 percent of players are ranked 10 and below, and win streaks stop at around level 5, according to Blizzard's stats, which makes every match count much more, with the key to getting ahead being winning more games than you lose.

While growth can be achieved with a positive match record, we must also take into account the fact that a 51 percent win rate is not likely to get you anywhere far in a timely fashion, which means that the players who consistently reach Legend have considerably higher records.
