The team at Blizzard working on Hearthstone says that it is still exploring the business model that it will use for the planned Adventure mode and for any expansion that will be delivered for the card game.

The company wants to make sure that players are able to access all included content without spending any real-world money, but it also wants to make all new elements of the game available to as many players as possible.

Jason Chayes, a production director working on Hearthstone, tells Eurogamer that, “We're still locking down the business model for Adventures and expansions, but one thing we feel pretty passionately about on the team is that there should be a way to unlock the content in Adventures just by playing the game.”

He adds, “You'll have the option to access and play that content without spending real money. That may mean you earning gold through the existing systems we have in place and using that to unlock Adventures. Beyond that - how much will it cost, how much to charge? We're still debating that internally.”

Adventures are designed to be completely solo experiences and will expand the appeal of the card-based game.

Blizzard has not offered all the details on the new mode, which will only be added once the game is out of beta and all core mechanics are working correctly.

Hearthstone is a card-based experience that is entirely free-to-play, but also allows interested gamers to use real-world money to get access to more cards.

The entire title was created by a small team and was initially set to be just a spin-off, but the player base made it a success even during beta stage.

Blizzard says that it will regularly add new content to Hearthstone in order to make sure that the fans remain interested in the long term.
