Blizzard promised a surprising announcement at PAX East and the studio has just revealed it, in the form of Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, a brand new free-to-play online card game based on the Warcraft universe.

Blizzard has treated fans with a variety of blockbuster titles, the most recent being StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, the next expansion in the StarCraft 2 trilogy.

Now, at PAX East, Blizzard has revealed HearthStone: Heroes of Warcraft, a free-to-play online card game that will take place in the Warcraft universe.

The card game will be accessible to all sorts of players and has over 300 different cards. Players will be able to build their decks and play as one of nine different heroes, each with various abilities that can be summoned during matches.

The game is a lightweight experience, according to Blizzard, as only 15 developers are working on it.

No word yet on when the game goes live, but sign-ups for a beta stage are already live on the official website.
