As it turns out, it could be that men are better equipped to deal with heart attacks than women are. Otherwise put, evidence indicates ladies have high chances to be more shaken up by such episodes than gentlemen usually are.

Researchers say that, following a heart attack, women typically take longer to recover. Specifically, they must remain in the hospital, where doctors can keep a close eye on them, for an extended period of time.

Besides, specialists say that, when compared to men, ladies are more likely to die in the hospital in the aftermath of a heart attack. This is despite the help that they stand to get from doctors, Live Science informs.

While looking at the records of 230,000 hospitalization for heart attacks documented between the years 2001 and 2010, researchers found that, whereas the mortality rate in the case of men was one of 2%, in the case of women it fluctuated from 3.3% to 2.3%.

During the same period, the number of hospitalizations for heart attacks documented in the case of women upped from 56 per 100,000 people to 61 per 100,000. In the case of men, however, it decreased.

Interestingly enough, it appears that women who go through a heart attack at some point in their lives are also more likely to be diagnosed with other medical conditions like hypertension and diabetes, and even experience heart failure.
