Healthy-Looking Wavy Summer Hair

- Try your hand at the wash-and-go 'do - you'll quickly learn to love it

By: Monica Gaza, Life & Style Editor

With summer on the way, great hair is something that's bound to stay on our minds a lot these days – for a series of reasons. First of all, no summer look is complete without a matching hairstyle, whether we're talking shining, long, dreamy curls, a styled bob or a short, pixie-ish 'do with lots of textured layers of color. Trouble is, traditional hairstyling and summer heat
don't really go together – imagine having to use a heat-activated blow dryer and /or a curling iron when you already feel your head swooning in the heat. If you're looking at a hot summer day that you'll mostly spend outside, why not try the wash-and-go 'do? It's easy and quick to achieve and will leave your hair looking naturally wavy, textured and tousled.

One last thing before we begin: this hairstyle will mostly compliment short and medium cuts and layered hairstyles, as it will add to your hair's natural volume without making it look heavy or over-styled. However, long-haired ladies (especially those with naturally wavy hair) should also give it a try. Step one: wash your hair with your usual shampoo. If you're using a clarifying shampoo, that's even better, because they're guaranteed not to weigh hair down and make it look lifeless. Trick number one: use a volumizing conditioner; don't spread it on the full length of your hair, though, but use a de-tangling comb to work it into the ends of your hair, taming out any tangles. This is an essential step, as there won't be any more combing once you rinse the conditioner out.

After rinsing your hair, wrap it up in an absorbent towel and wait for half an hour. When time comes to unwrap your hair, remember combing or brushing are out of the question. This will leave your hair looking naturally wavy and make the most of its natural patterns. It's time for a little help from either a curl-enhancing hair spray, gel or mousse. Apply it with your head hanging down, using the tips of your fingers to style individual locks of hair, from the roots all the way to the tips. Finally, allow your hair to dry naturally, occasionally running your fingers along your scalp, tousling as you go. Voila!
