Looks like the iPhone is a top priority for medical service providers these days. Following the announcement of AirStrip OB for physicians owning an iPhone, TelaDoc Medical Services and Healthagen have revealed teaming up to launch iTriage. Through TelaDoc, the iPhone app provides physician or consumer-directed cross coverage 24/7 delivered by primary care doctors who diagnose medical problems and, when appropriate, prescribe medication.

iTriage can connect users to a nurse or physician advice line and, in a few minutes, they can be talking to a physician and many times have a prescription called into their local pharmacy facilitating the treatment of many simple and common disorders, according to Healthagen.

“This smartphone application significantly expands our market reach, making it easier and more convenient for healthcare consumers to reach a physician – whenever or wherever they are located,” says Michael Gorton, CEO of TelaDoc. “This relationship comes on the heels of our alliance with Microsoft HealthVault, a free Web-based platform that enables individuals to collect, store, and share health information with hospitals and physicians. As a result of this union of healthcare technologies, consumers can also search medical topics related to TelaDoc through Microsoft’s search sites including Live Search Health, become TelaDoc members and connect to a physician within minutes - and then share that medical visit with their other care providers.”

iTriage, developed by Healthagen, is an iPhone app that empowers consumers to make better healthcare decisions through access to relevant medical information, transparency around quality, and information and access to local healthcare facilities. These important aspects are handled by partner firm, TelaDoc, which helps iTriage users evaluate their symptoms, lists potential diagnoses, and gets locations for treatment.

“Our partnership with TelaDoc enhances the range of service offerings in iTriage and provides the mainstream healthcare consumer with unparalleled access to information and resources like the ability to talk directly to a physician from the application,” said Healthagen co-founder and CEO, Peter Hudson, M.D. “Healthagen is focused on bringing healthcare information, transparency and access directly to the individual consumer through the iTriage application.”

iTriage is immediately available in the Apple App Store for $0.99. Through TelaDoc, individuals are guaranteed a call back from a qualified PCP – usually in under an hour.
