What do you know! And there was me thinking that Reese Witherspoon and Jake "I was horrified of gay sex scenes" Gyllenhaal were just fooling around, enjoying a little "fauxmance" in the wake and for the benefit of the movie they shot together, "Rendition". Apparently, we were all wrong - and we'll have to live for the rest of our lives with the guilt of having suspected these two of foul play. Kidding. It seems, however, that Jake at least is taking his relationship with the freshly divorced blonde wonder seriously - serious enough to pop a marriage proposal. Which Reese turned down. Drama alert!
Jake reportedly popped the question during the couple's recent romantic break to Rome. Reese, however - whose divorce from Ryan Philippe was finalized barely a month ago, in October - apparently turned him down because she does not want to rush into another union. "Reese says it is just too soon after her divorce from Ryan to think about marrying again. She is madly in love with Jake, but her divorce just became final, and she doesn't want to rush into anything", a source close to the couple reports. Well, I personally tend to think that "madly in love" is a bit of a strong phrase, but hey, this is Hollywood - celebrities' brains (and hearts) are wired a bit differently from those of ordinary people.

Jake apparently planned a day filled with romantic gestures before he plucked up the courage to ask Reese to marry him. A few shots of Tequilla would have worked just fine, too, if you ask me, but since they were in Rome and all, I sort of understand why he went the traditionally romantic way. The couple was reportedly having dinner at the Zodiaco café when Gyllenhaal (he really has to have a talk with Nicole Scherzinger about changing his name) went down on one knee. And Reese still said no. What a heartless person! Kidding.
Reese is said to be extremely cautious about her love live for the sake of her two children, Ava, who is eight, and four-year-old Deacon. The same source stated that "Reese wants to take things very slowly because of her two young children. She doesn't want anything to upset or disrupt them. It took her a while to introduce them to Jake - she didn't want them to know they were a couple until they were definitely serious about each other". Well, I must say that totally makes sense. I must give Reese props - she really seems to be more down to earth than her current partner is and doesn't seem to be that desperate for attention. Good for her. Who wants to bet Jake won't give up that easily, though? We'll just have to wait and see.
