Adhesive Games has announced that their multiplayer mech combat video game Hawken will be making its way to Steam later this month.

Hawken is a first-person mech shooter, placing players in the middle of a war for resources, in a distant dystopian future. There are many classes of mechs to suit every playstyle, and they are all fully upgradable.

The devs are hard at work making Hawken bigger and better, and Steam integration will mean reaching a broader audience, as the team continues its efforts to deliver a full release later in the year.

Adhesive Games has prepared both a Steam Transition Guide as well as a Steam Transition FAQ in order to make the process as smooth as possible, and LIVE services were temporarily brought down in order to begin the transformation.

The official Hawken community announcement highlights some of the key points of the move, stating that Hawken will only be accessible through Steam from now on, and the existing launcher will be disabled, players being now required to make a Steam account in order to log on and play, and new account creation will be disabled until the final February release.

Over the course of the next week, new pilots will be able to gradually join the game, a process covered in the transition guide. Players are advised that once the game client is downloaded on Steam, the February Update version of Hawken will be available, a patch that is still missing some content that the developer plans to release in the next couple of weeks.

The transition process is designed to allow access to existing players and slowly ramp up for the full Steam launch by the end of February, reducing stress on the servers and testing their capacity.
