The development team at Adhesive Games has revealed via the Oculus Rift Kickstarter that it will offer full support for the virtual reality headset in their upcoming Hawken mech-based video game.

The cockpit of the game has been re-designed in order to allow players to simply use the Oculus Rift to move their head around and take in the entire game and all the options that are available.

At the moment Oculus Rift is not available commercially, as the team behind it is still gathering money via the Kickstarter crowd-funding service.

Gamers who want to get their hands on one of the virtual reality headsets as soon as possible can pay 300 dollars or Euro in order to get access to a development kit and commercial units will probably be offered at some point during 2013.

Hawken is a free-to-play video game that will allow players to customize and take a mech into combat, using long- and short-range weapons to take out enemies while exploring a number of maps.

Gamers can also pay real-world money in order to get access to more customization options.

Hawken is currently set to be launched on December 12 on the PC and a version of it will also be delivered via streaming service Gaikai.

Oculus Rift was recently praised by a representative from Valve, which has stated that the device might introduce a way of experiencing video games that will become mainstream in a few years.

He believes that the impact of the virtual reality headset might be equal to that of the smartphone, which has gone from high-tech gadget to news source and gaming device.

The creators of Oculus Rift have suggested that other video game companies might announce support for the headset once the Kickstarter project is successfully funded.
