A woman from Hawaii has sued state authorities because they would not allow her to use her full, 35-letter name on official paperwork.

The driver's license of Janice Lokelani Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele is missing her first and middle names and a letter of her surname.

She dubs the shortening of the name "disrespectful to the Hawaiian people," as it reflects her heritage.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, it has gotten her in trouble before. If she gets pulled over, she is always questioned about her missing first name.

"The county has never accommodated my name on my driver's license," she says.

She explains that she has taken on her late husband's name and she is very attached to it. Local department of transportation authorities have agreed to raise the limitations on the issue to 40-character names.
