Gone are the times when Christmas was all about green and red. These days, not only do we get to see more seldom these two specific colors in holiday decorations, but more “unusual” shades are considerably gaining ground. This way, if in the past years, we had, alternatively, blue and white Christmas, interior designers are now daring us to treat ourselves to a gold and purple one.

Not only is gold the color of abundance, which can translate into more than just material plenitude, but it’s also warm and inviting enough so as to perfectly fit the entire Christmas spirit. Purple, as you must have guessed, goes with gold like a charm, while also being in its turn a warm and trendy shade. When both are combined, the effect is nothing short of breathtaking and, no doubt about it, all your friends will duly admire you for your choice.

Speaking of which, in case you do decide to go different this year, you should know that the range of combinations available is almost endless. Gold is everywhere, from the baubles and ribbons, to candlesticks and other decorative pieces, and to the tree itself. Purple goes in almost all shades, from pinkish to dark violet – however, it is not recommended that you mix more than two hues, three at most.

If not much room for play is allowed in this last respect, there is more than plenty to spare in the combination between the two, or the extent to which you use them. If you’re really feeling “wild” and you want to do something out of the ordinary, designers say it’s OK to even make the entire Christmas-“dedicated” room in these two colors. Of course, the expense would be more than considerable in such a case, but in the end, it will be well worth, no doubt. So, this year, forget about the old-fashioned green and red mix, and choose to be different.
