Hatch Jewelry is a “jewelry publisher” one might say, a shop that curates designs accumulated from all over the world. The website has been keeping an eye on the 3D printing market and has pounced on the opportunity provided by the technology.

So the website has launched the “Bronze It Up” contest, which is basically a challenge to designers to submit their wares via contests and open calls.

That's basically how Hatch operates: allows the community to decide which of all its eligible items to go up on the website.

In “Bronze It Up,” designers will present their ideas and 3D printed items for the community of jewelry enthusiasts to vote which gets to go for sale on Hatch.

As far as openings go, it's not a bad one. Hatch is a newly released site, and wants to make a good first impression by hosting this competition.

Anyone wishing to participate will have to create a piece of jewelry 3D printed out of matte bronze steel.

The judge will be the company’s Design Director, Linnea Olson-Schwartz, who's been working for over 16 years as an accessories and fashion editor for GQ, Elle Girl, Elle Accessories, and Surface Magazine, among other companies.

He will be looking for pieces that “exhibit a unique sense of aesthetic, functionality and an understanding of the material.”

If you happen to be a designer interested in trying your hand at this, you have until February 15, 2014 to submit something.

“These challenges allow anybody, regardless of their tenure in the industry, to have a platform to sell their showcase and sell their work. It’s an opportunity that is hard to come by these days and we’re excited to see the talent we will discover at Hatch Jewelry,” says site founder, Matthew Sargeant.

Winners will get $500 / €363 and a cut off all sales of their jewelry, which Shapeways will be in charge of 3D printing.
