There is currently a Core i5 model selling for NT$20,000 / US$667 / €503

I've seen my share of cheap laptops, but it's one thing to see a low-cost notebook that was meant as one, and a low-cost laptop that, by all accounts, is worth more.

Then again, with all the VAT and taxes added to production costs, one might argue that none of the laptops, or other products, is worth the money one has to pay for them.

That dilemma aside, Acer has cut the price on its Haswell Core i5-based notebooks.

At least, there is one model selling for less than NT$20,000 / US$667 / €503, which is a first for the company.

It might be a sign that Acer has more or less finished exhausting its inventory of Ivy Bridge-powered laptops.

However, it might also cause a price war and damage vendors' profits, maybe break the price boundaries of the notebook market altogether.

Not something we, as consumers, are likely to mind, but potentially dangerous for the companies involved.
