Swedish high-end camera and optics manufacturer Hasselblad has revealed last month its plans to launch a new medium format camera system with a 50MP CMOS sensor in March 2014.

As previously announced, the company is present at the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show in Yokohama, Japan with its latest camera models, which include the H5D-50c medium format, the A-mount HV DSLR, and the 1-inch sensor Stellar compact digital camera.

Japanese website DCwatch has posted the very first photos with the upcoming Hasselblad H5D-50c medium format camera and has offered more information regarding its price and availability.

According to the details provided by the manufacturer at its CP+ 2014 booth, the H5D-50c will be released in March, bearing a price tag of 2.6 million yen / $25,500 / €18,700, significantly cheaper than its direct competition, the recently launched Phase One IQ250, which is priced at $34,990 / €24,990.

As the first sample images shot with the new Phase One IQ250 have already been revealed, it will be interesting to see how Hasselblad's model performs, since it uses the same Sony-made 50MP CMOS sensor.

Of course, the $10,000 / €6,300 price difference will surely be a decisive factor for professionals looking to purchase a medium format camera packed with the latest technologies.

“We are delighted to provide CP+ visitors with a unique preview opportunity – a chance to get to grips with our superb new medium format option before its official launch at the beginning of March. This will be the second time for Hasselblad Japan as an exhibitor at this important imaging show, which this year is expected to have a visitor count well in excess of 70,000. We are very much looking forward to catching up with our customers there,” stated Hasselblad CEO Ian Rawcliffe.

Also at CP+ 2014, the company has displayed the recently announced Hasselblad HV full-frame digital SLR, which now can be purchased in Japan for 1.2 million yen / €8,600 / $11,800 in a kit including the Vario-Sonnar T * 24-70mm F2.8 ZA SSM lens, spare battery, and special case.

Last but not least, if you happen to attend the CP+ 2014 show, you will also notice at Hasselblad's booth a compact digital camera equipped with a 1-inch sensor as part of the Stellar camera series.
