You surely remember a situation when you argued with your friends about a questionable word while you were playing the popular Scrabble game. Well, Hasbro, the company responsible for producing Scrabble in the United States and Canada, is now giving you the chance to add new words to the game's official dictionary.

The recent changes in technology, trends and pop culture have caused the introduction of many new words into everyday vocabulary.

In an effort to stay relevant, the Scrabble Dictionary is being updated for the first time in nearly a decade, and fans can contribute to the new edition by participating in a contest launched on Facebook and titled Scrabble Word Showdown.

The last update to the dictionary was made in 2005 and the new update is scheduled to be released in August. The fifth edition will include thousands of new words, out of which one will be voted by the Scrabble fans.

Scrabble and Merriam-Webster will select 16 words from those nominated on the page, and fans will vote once again, with the winner becoming public on April 10.

All you have to do is head over to the contest's Facebook page and submit your suggestion until March 28.

“One word can change everything. We’re updating the Merriam-Webster Dictionary Online Official Scrabble Players Dictionary for the first time in 9 years with the #ScrabbleWordShowdown!” the company said, according to Warpzoned.

“The Scrabble Word Showdown will let fans nominate and vote on words that are fun and relevant for today’s players,” Jonathan Berkowitz, Hasbro's vice president of marketing, added.

So far, people have suggested words like “photobomb,” “amazeballs,” “cromulent,” “dingledorf” and other.

In its announcement, Hasbro has suggested modern words like “selfie” and “hashtag.”

Seeing all the enthusiasm around the contest, Berkowitz said, “We are excited to see which word rises to the top and makes its way into the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary.”
