If “My Week with Marilyn” with Michelle Williams fares well with audiences and critics, producer Harvey Weinstein has plans to bring the story to Broadway. And he has just the person for the part: Katy Perry.

After ditching some criticism about choosing Williams for the role of the ultimate blonde icon Marilyn, Weinstein is looking at serious Oscar buzz for the film.

In fact, he's determined to make it into a Broadway play if it does well at the box office. He's even thought about how could play Marilyn, She Knows informs.

“If My Week With Marilyn is successful, at some point, five years, ten years from now, I think Katy would be perfect to play Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn on Broadway, sing those songs, do the dances,” Weinstein is quoted as saying.

Of course, he didn't just pick her name out of a hat. Weinstein and Perry met in 2010 and she even has a remixed version of “The One that Got Away” included in one of the trailers for the film.

It was amazing what the connection with such a popular pop star as Katy did in terms of exposure, Weinstein muses.

“Katy posted it on her Twitter and Facebook and the next thing you know 250,000 people have downloaded the trailer in an hour,” he says, as cited by the aforementioned publication.

Indeed, interest in “My Week with Marilyn” is soaring. Some moviegoers want to see it because they want to be able to say “I told you so” when they come out of the theater and say Williams was a bad choice for such an iconic character.

Others, of course, believe she will do a wonderful job in terms of capturing the essence of Marilyn, that je ne sais quoi that made her famous all over the world – and continues to fascinate men and women to this day.

Critics, on the other hand, are almost entirely convinced that Williams will put on the performance of her career, one that will hopefully also land her an Oscar come February.
