The book version for what has been called the “Harry Potter spinoff” was released in 2001 and was presented as one of Harry's Hogwarts textbooks. Now, that book is going to be adapted into a movie by Warner Bros., that has just made public the release date.

MTV reports that the movie “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is going to be just the opening act of a new trilogy, and that it's going to open in theaters on November 18, 2016. The film is going to be written by Rowling herself and is going to follow the life of Newt Scamander, the magical creature specialist in charge of the textbook dealing with magical creatures.

The events in the movies are set 70 years before Harry ever arrived at Hogwarts, meaning that the action takes place sometime in the 1920s.

Warner Bros. CEO, Kevin Tsujihara has revealed that the book will serve as the basis of a trilogy, “Three megamovies are planned. The main character will be a ‘magizoologist’ named Newt Scamander. The stories, neither prequels or sequels, will start in New York about seven decades before the arrival of Mr. Potter and his pals.”

So far, there hasn't been a director assigned for the script, and no casting has yet taken place, but that is surely going to happen, now that the project has received a release date and the studio looks keen to put certain things in motion.
