Video game developer Harmonix has been rather quiet in the last few months and has kept quiet about the titles that it plans to create after the launch of Dance Central 2, which will be out this fall exclusively on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

But now the leader of the company says that they might be getting ready to create something different from what they have offered until now.

Speaking to Joystiq Alex Rigopulos, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Harmonix, has stated, “I think we’re always open-minded about new opportunities. Our focus always has been and probably always will be on music-themed games.”

Despite Harmonix being interested in playing to its strengths the CEO has said that the company might be interested in working outside of its comfort zone.

Rigopulos added, “A perfect example is the Kinect, which I think that through our work on Dance Central we’ve developed an affinity for — towards motion gaming. It wouldn’t be surprising if in the future we took some steps outside of our wheelhouse in music to try some new things in non-music focused motion gaming.”

Harmonix has created a game called Antigrav that used the Eye Toy for the PlayStation gaming platform before getting into the music game business, first with the Guitar Hero franchise and then with its Rock Band rival.

Considering the experience that Harmonix has been developing with the Kinect motion tracking system it makes sense for them to try and deliver a non music game for that device before trying to port that to the PlayStation 3, with the Move, or to the new Wii U from Nintendo.

The music game space has imploded after a couple of very good years but Harmonix is saying that it might deliver more titles in the space in the coming years.
