Might create a videogame around it

Rock Band might be ready to make an announcement linked to the future of the well-known Rock Band franchise, putting up a poll on the official forums and inviting fans to make a choice related to the band they would like to see appear in simulated form in a future game. The possible choices are: The Eagles, Pink Floyd, U2, Queen and Led Zeppelin. The initial post says that these are the bands that have been most requested by players since the series was first launched. Those who take the survey can also choose to submit another band for consideration.

Harmonix is quick to dispel any idea that the poll results will influence its choice of band for an upcoming project, saying that “In the interest of immediately addressing suspicion and heading rumors off before they start, this poll is not an indication, implication, hint, suggestion, guarantee or promise that Harmonix is going make games based on any or all of the bands listed in this poll. We know how excited Rock Band super fans get about uncovering the next big thing, so we wanted to clear that up right from the start”. Of course, they can post any disclaimer they want but fans of the bands mentioned and of the Rock Band series itself will find plenty of reasons for speculation.

This survey is probably a direct result of the degree of success experienced by The Beatles: Rock Band, the band specific videogames which arrived late in 2009. Harmonix has already committed to launching Rock Band 3 but the future for the series lies in more self-contained experiences, based on the career of well-known bands.

On June 8, all those interested can get their hands on Green Day: Rock Band and as soon as E3 Harmonix and MTV Games might actually announce another project, built around one of the bands mentioned above.
