Harmonix has launched a new video which celebrates four years since the Rock Band franchise was released, talking about how hard it has been to launch the game and compete with another music based franchise that they had created.

Ryan Lesser, who is the art director at Harmonix, says, “It was a rough, scary time for us because we had to make a game to compete with our other game, that we made, that we love. Guitar Hero wasn’t ours to make any more. We had to make something better. And that was hard.”

Mike Dornbrook, who was CEO at the developer, added “Guitare Hero was a great brand. “We did invent that brand name. And the logo, and the box, and everything. So going up against your own creation was interesting.”

The full video runs to about nine minutes and is filled with more details about the franchise.

Harmonix has said that it has long term plans for the Rock Band franchise.
