A generally-reliable source of such news has been able to independently confirm that Apple is, indeed, gearing up to introduce a redesigned 13.3-inch MacBook Air with a bigger battery, and more ports, yet thinner and lighter than the current model.

Apple's new MacBook Air will be thinner, lighter and boxier than the current model, CultOfMac concludes, after being tipped off by one of its sources. The site also provides a mockup exclusively worked up by a person going by the name of Dan Draper.

Apple is known to be holding an event tomorrow, October 20, at its Town Hall venue in Cupertino, California, where the Mac maker is expected to introduce not one, but two updated MacBook Air models, one of them boasting a smaller, 11-inch screen.

According to CultOfMac’s well-placed source, Apple may introduce a second, smaller 11.6-inch ‘Netbook’ version of the MacBook Air, alongside the updated 13-incher.

The site claims that its information independently corroborates recent reports which ran a picture of a purported prototype over the weekend.

Although it hasn’t been able to confirm the launch date of the new MacBook Air model(s), the source believes it’s likely the new computers are to be introduced during the “Back to the Mac” press event.

It appropriately points out that the MacBook Air is long due for an upgrade. The last time Apple beefed up its specs was over a year ago.

As for the specs of the new model Apple is rumored to introduce tomorrow, the source claims they’re the following:

- a 50-percent bigger battery, delivering 8-10 hours of battery life

- thinner and lighter design, weighing less than the current model’s 3lbs

- an aluminum unibody enclosure, like the current model — but not as curvy.

“It’s very, very nice,” the Cult’s source reportedly said. “It does not have curves. It has straight edges. It’s boxier, like the iPhone 4.”

- SD card, two USB ports, straight MagSafe

- two USB ports, one on each side.

- Mini DisplayPort adapter on the left side, next to the MagSafe power plug

- pretty much the same trackpad and keyboard as with the current model

- 2GB of RAM, SSD storage for the base model, both upgradeable

- NVidia GeForce 320M integrated graphics

- CPU configurations include 2.1Ghz (with 2GB of RAM) and 2.4 GHz (with 4GB of RAM).

- Pricing: $1,100 for the 13-inch model, $999 for the 11-inch version.
