Microsoft has just announced that it has set up a new development studio in Vancouver, Canada, which is now working on getting a new hardcore AAA shooter for the Kinect motion detection peripheral on the Xbox 360.

Microsoft Games Studios has been expanding its studio count left and right these days, especially given the huge popularity of the company's Kinect motion detection sensor, which recently managed to become the fastest selling electronics device in history.

Now, the company has just announced the opening of a new studio, MGS Vancouver, which will be working on a new "core AAA shooter" for the Kinect peripheral.

"MGS Vancouver is building a world-class development team in Vancouver, BC, Canada, dedicated to making games for 'core' gamers. Our mission is to push the limits of proven and unexplored game development and show the world what's possible on Microsoft's game consoles."

The team will be collaborating closely with BigPark Studios, another Microsoft internal studio, which worked on Kinect Joy Ride, and has quite a lot of job openings posted on its website.

According to the resume of Shawn Woods, the new art director for MGS Vancouver, found by a NeoGAF member, via GamaSutra, the studio's strategy is focused on "developing a core AAA shooter experience using Kinect."

As you will be able to see if you check out the MGS Vancouver website or the picture above, there are also two silhouettes of armed men, so the shooter part definitely checks out.

Microsoft promised earlier this year that more hardcore Kinect experiences were set to be revealed throughout this year, in order to attract many gamers that already have an Xbox 360 for core games like Halo or Gears of War, but who have yet to buy a Kinect sensor for the console.

Still, don't expect any big announcement coming from MGS Vancouver anytime soon, as the studio no doubt needs time to properly develop its new project.
