The Sony PlayStation 2 console has just turned 7 years old and it's ready to go to school and learn new things like surpassing the sales of all other major gaming platforms nowadays. Sony Computer Entertainment America must be having one hell of a party right now, celebrating my personal favorite console. If you thought that those 120 million units stood for one nice sales figure, check this out: turns out that Sony has sold more than 1 billion PS2 software units so far...

This makes the PS2 the best selling gaming platform ever created and I wonder if any of you remember the days of October 2000, when all the gaming community members were holding their breath for a wonder... Sony's representatives claimed that they expect the PS2 to outlive the PSX and continue supporting top notch titles, while experimenting with new technologies. The "birthday toy" also had a major role in establishing the DVD as a major format, in its 7 years of life. Almost 1,500 titles were released on the PS2 and a huge figure of 160 new game are expected to flood the US by the end of March 2008.

You might be familiar with some of them, specially with hits like Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, High School Musical: Sing It, Madden NFL 08, Manhunt 2, NBA '08, Rock Band, Buzz etc. Sony also rewards the gamers by releasing a special edition PS2, available in Ceramic White and bundled with the SingStar Pop title plus two microphones. This "present" costs $149.99 and it will be made available in the US at the beginning of the following month.

Once again congrats Sony for delivering real entertainment and superb gaming experiences to our houses, for 7 years of joy, tears, laughter, disk errors, Tekken 5 disk scratches because of too much play and an overdose of God of War...
