40 years ago, somewhere in Welkom, a small city located in the Free State province of South Africa, was born Mark Richard Shuttleworth, the founding father of Canonical, who develops the most popular Linux operating system in the world, Ubuntu.

Born on September 18, 1973, Mark Shuttleworth is a South African entrepreneur and Internet millionaire. He's the world’s second paying space tourist, and also the first South African in space.

In 2009 he stepped down as the CEO of Canonical. Since then, Mark Shuttleworth provides leadership for the Ubuntu Linux operating system, trying to conquer the open source world with innovative and powerful software, such as the upcoming Ubuntu Touch operating system for smartphones.

I, Marius Nestor, and the entire Softpedia Linux team wishes a happy, happy birthday to Mark Shuttleworth, where ever you are!
