Hanns-G Hangs Back with Entry-Level HK241DPB Monitor

The media has been busy with news about LED displays and future technologies, but Hanns-G decided to deliberately lag behind the current, so as to offer entry-level customers a fairly inexpensive Full HD monitor.

LED backlights may have reached the point where they don't add much of a price premium to reasonably large monitors and HDTVs, but they still aren't exactly done replacing CCFL.

Hanns-G figured it wouldn't hurt to put together a monitor that lacks LEDs, though it did not hold back too much from the rest of the spec sheet.

For instance, even though this is supposed to be a low-end product, Hanns-G still implemented Full HD support (native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels).

This is enough to make it suitable for budget-conscious gamers and video watchers.

The rest of the specs aren't anything to scoff at either, not when the price of $179.99 (131.95 Euro) is factored in.

The contrast ratio, for instance, is 80,000:1, not too shabby, all things considered, while the brightness level is 300 cd/m2.

All in all, the HK241DPB, as it is called, is a fairly decent low-end device, even if it will, ultimately, consume more power than a LED-backlit equivalent.

Newegg has already listed it as available for online order, complete with the specifications.

Speaking of specs, the features mentioned above are complemented by DVI and D-Sub outputs, while a pair of 1.5W speakers supplement the list.

Other specs include viewing angles of 170 / 160 degrees horizontally and vertically (respectively), 16.7 million colors, Energy Star 5.0 compliance and a stand with minor tilt adjustment.

Finally, the 23.6-inch monitor features a Kensington slot, weighs 11.5 lbs (5.21 kilograms) and measures 23.0 x 17.1 x 7.9 inches (584 x 434 x 200 mm). The power consumption is 50W during operation and 1W in standby.
