Given that “The Hangover Part 2” just killed it at the domestic box office in its opening weekend, setting a new record for an R-rated release, it’s not that far-fetched to imagine that a third movie will also be made – and it may be set in Amsterdam.

Assuming that the argument of the excellent box office performance of the second film is not enough to convince some fans, one should note that director Todd Phillips also revealed some time ago that he saw “Hangover” as a trilogy.

As it turns out, even the stars of the franchise want a third installment, and they actually hope it will be set in Amsterdam, PopEater reports.

“Probably Amsterdam. If you think of the coolest, craziest cities in the world, it would have to be Las Vegas, Bangkok and Amsterdam,” Jamie Chung said at the premiere of the film, as cited by the aforementioned e-zine.

“Amsterdam could be a different kind of hangover. It could be fun. And Zach [Galifanakis] will probably already be there,” Justin Bartha added.

Other members of the cast, like Ken Jeong, are on board a third film regardless of the location.

“I would absolutely do a third one. All of my fame and success in the last few years is directly due to The Hangover. Those guys are like family to me, so it doesn’t matter – big part or small part,” he said.

As we also noted the other day, “Hangover 2” broke all records for a release on Memorial Day Weekend and for an R-rated release, making over $118 million in the US alone.

The excellent figures came despite rather lackluster reviews from critics and even some from fans, who stated that the comedy was at its strongest in the first part.

As of now, “Hangover 3” has not been greenlit just yet, but expect it to be so in the following weeks, when it becomes clear that audiences love the characters enough to return in theaters to see them again on another adventure.
