HandyLinux 1.6.1, a Linux distribution based on Debian and Xfce, has been officially released and is now available for download.

HandyLinux is a newer operating system and its developers have tried to provide a clear and familiar desktop interface. It might feel like it has a Windows 8 vibe, which is probably an effect of the theme used, but the OS is actually quite interesting.

One of the most interesting aspects of the distribution is the menu launcher, which is quite odd. It opens a new window with all the applications and the user has to choose from there on. It's definitely something different from the norm.

According to the changelog, Skype has been updated to version 4.3, the sudo group is no longer available for additional users, hunspell is now used instead of aspell, exfat-utils and exfat-fuse have been added, the keyboard selector applet xfce4-xkb-plugin has been added, and a number of Debian updates have been implemented.

If you have downloaded and installed HandyLinux, then you don't have to do anything extra. Just upgrade the operating system and everything should be up to date.

You can find more details about this Linux distribution on the official blog, but you should brush up on your French a little bit before heading there. You can download HandyLinux 1.6.1 right now from Softpedia.
