The new role-playing game from CI Games looks very good

CI Games has worked on quite a lot of different games so far, such as the Sniper: Ghost Warrior ones, but its next big project is certainly the most intriguing.

After trying its hands with shooters, the Polish developer is now hoping to roll out Lords of the Fallen, a third-person medieval fantasy role-playing game, in the vein of titles popular nowadays, such as Dark Souls.

Lords of the Fallen was present at Nvidia Game24 London

After rolling out quite a few different videos and screenshots over the past few months, the studio brought at Nvidia's Game24 event in London a playable build of its upcoming RPG, allowing participants to see the many PC-only visual effects that are included in the title.

Lords of the Fallen aims at bringing a bit of innovation to the RPG genre right from the get-go with its character select screen, which first lets players choose what type of magic they want to wield. There's the Brawler, which helps those looking to go head-on against enemies via spells like Rage and Quake. There's the Solace, which focuses on defense and using the enemy's power against it. And there's also the Deception, which relies on amplifying damage and tricking foes.

Afterwards, players can also pick from the regular archetypes of warrior, rogue, and cleric, in terms of what other abilities and armor they want to wield.

Afterwards, the story is introduced, but this sort of experience doesn't need that much plot, as players quickly are allowed to actually control the protagonist in a short tutorial battle.

Combat is heavy, yet intense

Like in other titles, players can perform light attacks quickly and heavier moves that require a bit of time to set up. Bear in mind that you need to keep an eye on your energy bar, as performing too many attacks depletes it. When foes go on the offense, you can block their blows with your shield or perform an evasive roll towards the left or right.

As such, when engaging in a battle, players need to find a balance between going on the offense with attacks when enemies are vulnerable and blocking incoming blows and leaving their energy bar time to refill.

Gorgeous visuals and effects

Of course, seeing as how Lords of the Fallen was shown running on a powerful PC assembled with Nvidia graphics cards, the visual effects were cranked to the max and it showed. The particle effects emanating from the flaming swords wielded by the demons were particularly impressive, as were the animations, textures, and character models.

Overall, Lords of the Fallen looks like a pretty good RPG, at least judging by its opening chapters. Look forward to its release on October 28 in North America and October 31 in Europe for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
