Given the fact the the Mobile World Congress from Barcelona is specifically dedicated to mobile computing solutions and smartphones, we were eagerly expecting to take a look at some of the numerous protection solutions for such devices available out there, our most interesting experience with products of this type occurring at the OtterBox booth.
The company came quite well-prepared to the Barcelona trade show, carrying out live demos of the Defender and Reflex series cases right within their booth, which really helped us get some more insight into what we should expect from these products.
The first product on display was a Defender series case for the iPad, that features no less than three layers of protection, while in the same time providing access to all buttons and ports via silicone plugs.
What's even more interesting in the case of the Defender series case is the fact that it comes equipped with a clip on, multi-direction shield with built-in, fold-out stand, that provides not only a very good level of protection for the iPad held within, but also support for landscape viewing.
The Reflex case for the
iPhone, on the other hand, also offers a very interesting technology, featuring a flexible rubber bumper on the inside, that helps it mitigate external stresses (such as the one applied to the device following a free fall on the floor) in a very interesting manner, somewhat similar to the way in which car bumpers behave.
Practically, by being able to slightly bend on the inside on impact, the Reflex case prevents the iPhone from being seriously damaged when dropped, while the case itself, since its made from plastic, will suffer very little damage as well.
P.S. As a special mention, we'll have to admit that the guys over at the OtterBox booth from MWC 2011 were some of the most entertaining company reps we've seen in a while, and talking to them was quite a refreshing experience.
