Acer is sure set to make a splash at the 2011 Mobile World Congress, which takes place right now in Barcelona, as the company decided to showcase an impressive number of innovative products, including the Iconia dual-screen notebook.

During the expo, we managed to take the notebook for a quick spin and we are happy to report that everything worked out OK as the Iconia was really smooth and quite responsive.

In addition, the user interface that Acer has developed especially for this device, managed to surprise us with some very useful tricks like the Gesture Editor app which allows for a hand-drawn gesture to be assigned to a certain action or the ability to span images to both screens.

These functions are complemented by a slew of touchscreen-enabled applications, such as Acer's TouchBrowser, TouchPhoto, TouchMusic, TouchVideo, and SocialJogger, to name just a few.

As far as the hardware specifications of the Iconia go, the notebook is powered by a first-gen Intel Core i5 processors (up to Core i5 580) and packs a maximum of 8GB of DDR3 memory, Intel HD graphics, up to 750GB of storage space as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Ethernet connectivity.

The two Gorilla Glass touchscreen displays support a rather low 1366x768 resolution and Acer promises they deliver 200-nits of brightness.

All these are powered by a 44Wh 3000mAh 4-cell Li-ion which Acer states it can provide up to 3 hours of running time, but I tend to doubt these figures considering the high power draw placed on the battery by the two 14-inch displays.

The rest of the features list is comprised of an 1.3MP webcam, HDMI and VGA video outputs, and optimized Dolby Home Theater v3 audio.

No details regarding pricing and availability have been made official by Acer until now.
