Acer today unveiled a new redesigned R 14 convertible which comes with a 360-degree hinge. Basically, it looks like a version of Lenovo’s super popular Yoga machine.

As opposed to the R 13 which I just detailed for you (here’s a hands-on we did with the device), the R 14 only offers four modes of use (Notebook, Display, Tent and Pad mode).

In the display department, things aren't as exciting as with the R 13 as Acer offers a 14-inch HD screen with the standard 1366 x 768 pixel resolution.

Under the hood, users can have their pick at an Intel Pentium, Core i3, i5 or i7 processors which can work in concert with up to 12GB of RAM. As for storage we have 500GB or 1TB hard drives, so you'll have plenty of space for storing files, photos and video.

As for GPU, the laptop takes advantage of the NVIDIA GeForce 820M card. Acer says the R 14 will start to be available this October for a price tag of $599 / €456.

I managed to handle the laptop a little and so I can tell you the glassless lid has a good texture which allows you to firmly grip it. This is an important aspect to take into consideration, given the size of this product.

I noticed the keyboard turns itself off when you’re using the device in tablet mode. The machine also provides good viewing angles and it seems quite responsive overall. Keep an eye out for it when it comes next month.
