After Toshiba, Acer jumps in the cheap Windows 8 tablet bandwagon

Earlier today, I was telling you that Toshiba took the world of tablets by surprise when it announced the super cheap Encore Mini slate at IFA 2014, a device running Windows 8.1 out of the box and selling for just $119 / €90.

You didn’t think Toshiba was going to be alone in this, right? A few hours later, also present on the grounds in Berlin, Acer also pulled the wraps off its very own mega-cheap Windows 8.1 tablet, called the Iconia Tab 8 W.

The Iconia Tab 8 W is an 8-inch tablet offering 1280 x 800 pixels res with IPS technology. It draws life from an Intel Atom Z3735G processor, but we’re not being told how many GBs of RAM this device is paired with (probably just 1GB).

The tab has a micro USB port for charging and a battery that should provide users with 8 hours of life. Most importantly, the tab grants one-year Microsoft Office 365 Personal access, which means you’ll be able to access Word, Excel, PowerPoint and all that.

The Acer Iconia Tab 8 W is a little bit more expensive than the Toshiba Encore Mini, selling for $150 / €114, but it does have better resolution and a bigger display.

The tablet is easy to handle and takes advantage of nice texture on the back that allows users to firmly grip it. Due to the super affordable price, it has a good chance to become quite popular fast.
