The game is a mix of deck building and roguelike elements

Hand of Fate, the Kickstarter roguelike with deckbuilding mechanics, is finally coming out next week.

The news comes from an update on Kickstarter, where Defiant Development, the studio working on the game, announced the exact release date and platforms.

The game is inspired by tabletop card gaming and revolves around building a deck of cards, and then beginning an adventure during which you draw out random cards, including your own and custom encounter ones.

During each of the encounters, the game transitions to a third-person hack and slash-type combat sequence where you have to defeat a series of enemies, after which you will be able to equip new items, presenting you with new abilities to use during battles and with enhanced stats.

The random encounters during the adventuring session also include a number of decisions to make, decisions which can have a positive or detrimental effect on your fate.

The unique combination of deckbuilding and fast-paced action makes Hand of Fate a pretty novel experience, one that is also pretty well thought out, managing to put together a handful of pretty basic gameplay mechanics and creating something entirely new.

Finally coming out

Hand of Fate is currently available on Steam Early Access, and the studio details how players can get hold of the game once it's out, while also talking about a slight delay concerning physical rewards for Kickstarter backers, for which the it apologizes.

Also of note is that Kickstarter backers can also choose to replace their PC download code with an Xbox One or PlayStation 4 one, but the supply is limited, and the keys will be issued on a first come, first served basis.

Hand of Fate is coming out for Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next week, on February 17. If you'd like to see the game in action, you can check out our preview of Hand of Fate.
