Hamburg is really going to enter the football history books. And not because of a great run in the Bundesliga or in the European cups, but because of their latest idea. Worthy of a Guinness Book Record, the Hamburg officials decided to build a cemetery right next to the stadium, as part of the team's sports park, AOL Arena. Why? So that the lifetime fans of the club would have the possibility to be there for the team after they pass away.
And this might just give a new meaning to the saying: "I'll love you even after I'll die". Well, it used to be about a love between a man and a woman. Still, football is, for a long time now, one of men's greatest passions. So the Hamburg officials thought that this would be a great idea. And the fans are pretty much into it.
Hamburg used to be a highly respected club inside the European football. Way before football's modern era - once the Champions League substituted Champions Cup - Hamburg was one of the great powers in European football. Nowadays, the club is trying to get back on track.
Still, there is one more issue to be discussed. While the Hamburg fans - who are also subscribers - are around 42.000, and the stadium has a 51.000 seats capacity, how are they all going to fit in a 500-places cemetery? Will the club be obliged to build another one after 5 or ten years, or only the "lucky" ones will be able to get a forever-resting place near the stadium?
The cemetery will cost 70.000 euros, but the profits in time will be pretty impressive. If you want to hold a single-place tomb, you'll have to pay out 8.000 euros. If you want a "two-seater", you'll have to pay 12.500 euros. The graves will be the owner's to keep for at least 25 years after buying it.
