Microsoft is apparently planning to use the unique voice of Cortana, Master Chief’s companion from the Halo games, in order to power a rival for Apple’s Siri, which will allow users to use voice search through Bing.

A report on MSFTNerd says that an app simply called Cortana will be launched first on Lumia phones in April, initially in beta form.

The leak says that Jen Taylor is already working with Microsoft to record the content needed by the app.

The actress has played the role of Cortana in the original Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo: Reach, Halo 4 and Halo: Forward Unto Dawn.

The app will first be officially delivered to users in the United States in autumn and will also be offered on the Xbox One at some point in 2015.

343 Industries and Microsoft are also working on a new Halo game that could arrive later this year.
