The destination for all Halo fans

The Halo franchise is one of the biggest series of video games in the world, having gained a cult-like following ever since the first shooter came out from Bungie many years ago on the original Xbox. Since then, it has completely rewritten the way shooter was played on consoles and has made a lot of money for Microsoft.

At last week's Comic-Con in San Diego, the head of 343 Industries, the special Halo brand of Microsoft, Frank O'Connor, revealed more details about Halo Waypoint, which would be the go-to destination for any Halo fan on Xbox Live.

He revealed that the special location would be a way for players to not only interact with friends but also access audio and video content, and follow their Halo career by tracking achievements and other aspects.

“There's a lot more to Waypoint than just watching movies and listening to podcasts,” O'Connor revealed. “Maybe you just want to see a really old Halo trailer from E3. We're going to aggregate everything that you would want to watch from the Halo universe on that site. But it's a lot more ambitious than that. It's going to evolve in features and functionality to make it the prime destination for the Halo fan.”

The executive also revealed that, while the destination was shaping up quite nicely, the level of Xbox Live membership hadn't been decided just yet. “We want everyone to have this same experience, but the question is, if there's multiplayer features that are technically connected to Gold, it's easier to deal with. There's a lot of reasons that tying it to Gold makes sense,” O'Connor explained.

Either way, Halo fans are bound to be flooded with content tied to their favorite franchise, as the Halo 3: ODST will be launched this fall, and, at the same time, the Halo: Legends anime short film compilation will also appear.
