Halo Wars was one of the most anticipated Xbox 360 titles at the beginning of the year, largely because it was the first new take on the Halo universe, setting it in a Real Time Strategy world, but also because it was the last project for veteran developer Ensemble Studios.

Now, after the title has become the best-selling RTS game on the current generation of consoles, Microsoft has just announced that it will be unleashing the Strategic Options DLC pack, which aims at enriching the whole experience for players of this strategy title.

Dated for a release in the following weeks, this new add-on pack will contain three new game modes that will provide a more dynamic take on the multiplayer experience and, for players who are keen on achievements, four new ones that are worth a total of 100 points.

Here are the three new multiplayer modes:

-Keepaway Mode is the “Halo Wars” adaptation of Capture the Flag. Teams will battle it out to capture a free-roaming Forerunner Sentinel to score points before the other team. Capture three sentinels to claim victory.
-Tug of War Mode is all about having a stronger army than the opponent. Defeating enemies is essential, but success is determined by a combination of the army, buildings and resources left standing in the end.
-In Reinforcement Mode, all active battle units are provided in successive waves. Players must adapt their tactics and use the ever-changing set of units to outwit and outlast the enemy.

Also, here are the new achievements that can be unlocked while you play in the new multiplayer modes:

-“One and Done” (30 points): Score the winning point in a game of Keepaway against Legendary A.I.’s
-“Pull Hard, Pull Deep” (20 points): Win and never trail in a Tug of War game
-“Freak on a Streak” (20 points): Gain at least 15 population from a single wave in a Reinforcement game
-“Living Loving Bug” (30 points): Obtain a Scarab during a Reinforcement game

Currently no other details are available for this new DLC, but Microsoft promises to reveal both the release date and the pricing details soon. Until then, we can still enjoy this great strategic take on the Halo universe.
