Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 users, rejoice. Microsoft is planning to launch the new Halo: Spartan Strike not only on Steam, but also on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, thus hoping to give a fair advantage to its mobile platforms that are still struggling to keep up with rivals.

WPCentral notes that December is very likely to witness the introduction of Spartan Strike, and even though information is very limited right now, chances are that the game will come as a Universal App working on both desktops and smartphones.

This means that users who purchase the app from either the Windows Store or the Windows Phone Store can download and play it on either desktops or smartphones as long as they use the same Microsoft account on their devices.

At the same time, the new game is very likely to work on Windows Phone handsets with at least 512 MB of RAM, so it might be a bit difficult to play it on the Lumia 520.

Last but not least, the game should be very similar to Halo: Spartan Assault in terms of graphics, controls, and gameplay, while also offering support to transfer your progress from one device to another.

The game, which comes with a new vehicle and other several other additions, takes place in year 2552 in New Mombasa, a major port city and industrial center of Mombasa Island. During a mission to recover an artifact you lose the entire team, but five years later, you go back to recover it through a series of unexplored territories.

The game will launch on December 14 and will be available on all modern Windows platforms for $5.99 (4.69 euro).

Microsoft is yet to reveal full details about this game, but we’ve already contacted the company on this and hopefully we’ll get an answer as soon as possible.
