Nothing like a video of a Halo Spartan on a college visit to remind students that they can get a free Xbox 360 if they purchase a new Windows 7 PC.

Microsoft’s 2011 back to school Windows 7 and Xbox special deal started early this year, as early as May in fact, and students only have a few more months left to take advantage of the offer which gets them a free console with every new computer they buy, provided that it costs at least $699.

Make sure to check out the video embedded below to get an idea of what it would be like if a Spartan soldier was a part of your college tour group. The windows.com/freexbox site continues to be up and running, and is a great place to get additional information on the software giant’s offer.

“You can take advantage of this killer deal by providing your .edu email address when you purchase your new PC online through one of our participating retailers including Dell.com, HP.com, Amazon.com or Microsoft Store,” revealed Microsoft’s Kristina Libby.

“If you don't have a .edu address or prefer to walk into a store, touch the PCs and test their features, bring your Student ID into any Microsoft Store retail location.”

I’ve written about the Xbox 360 for Windows 7 PC purchases campaign before, and judging by the number of readers of my articles, this initiative has certainly attracted quite a lot of interest.

Provided that they qualify, students with valid .edu email addresses or Student ID can still buy a Windows 7 PC $699 or more and get a free Xbox 360 4GB console from 5/23-9/3.

Microsoft notes that the deal will be live only as long as supplies last, but they seem to have more free Xbox 360 consoles to offer, so it would really be a shame for students not to take advantage of the deal. Those interested will be able to find participating retailers both in the US and Canada.

“High school and college students can buy any kind of PC (selection of eligible PC’s will vary by participating retailer), although we recommend a few specifically for students like the HP Pavilion DM4 a great entertainment system on the go, the Dell Inspiron 14r a stylish powerful 14” PC, and the Samsung Series 9 a computer that has been described as looking like it is about to rocket off the runway,” Libby added.
