In a rather surprising move, Microsoft has confirmed that it's going to launch Halo: Spartan Assault, its twin-stick top-down shooter onto the Steam digital distribution service on April 5, marking the first time the Halo series has been available on Valve's storefront.

Halo: Spartan Assault came out last year for mobile platforms and on the PC but only for Windows 8-powered computers, exclusively through the operating system's app store.

Since then, it made its debut on Xbox One and Xbox 360 and now it's coming to the PC once again, but this time through the Steam digital distribution service, which is owned by Valve.

The game already has a listing on Steam and confirms that it will include 30 missions that not only deliver intense gameplay, but also explore the Spartan Ops program seen in Halo 4.

The game has quite a few special features, including Steam achievements, leaderboards, and Steam trading cards, not to mention Steam Cloud save games.

The game also supports the keyboard and mouse control scheme but also controllers like the Xbox 360 one.

Unfortunately, it seems that the cooperative mode has been stripped from this version of the game, so don't expect to play with a buddy on the PC.
