Halo is one of the best known franchises in the world of video game and one of the leading developers working on the series says that a new approach has been implemented to make all products linked to it have more significant for future installments.

Speaking to Gamasutra as part of a bigger feature interview Frank O'Connor, who has been involved with previous Halo developer at Bungie and is now the franchise director at 343 Industries, has stated, “We made a decision a couple of years ago to make sure that all the fiction that we added to the game actually mattered, and actually had a purpose.”

He added, “We always used to say, 'Okay, if we’re going to tell a story in Halo Wars, we have to make this so that it doesn’t impact the rest of the universe. And I think that is a really unhealthy, unsatisfying, and ultimately unfair way to add story, because it meant that the creators who were working have all of these handcuffs on.”

At the moment the team working on Halo is making sure that every piece of content that they create has a clear place in the universe and has an impact that will be felt in future games and future content.

Frank O'Connor says that this approach can be seen in the remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, which introduces more story elements backed up by computer generation animation which also uses 3D elements.

The developers adds that those who are careful will also be able to spot some information linked to the still in development Halo 4, the game which will mark the return of Master Chief and Cortana.

Halo 4 will be launched exclusively on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft during the fall of 2012, the first full game created by 343 Industries.
