Most fans of the Halo franchise are probably busy watching the two big live-action trailers that the development team at 343 Industries and publisher Microsoft introduced for Halo 5: Guardians last night, but the two companies also have other details about products in the franchise that are equally interesting.

A new Halo Waypoint update is designed to show off the official cover image for the Halo: Hunters in the Dark book, which is set to be launched by Simon & Schuster later in the year.

The official description for the novel says that it will take place in 2555 and will focus on a big scientific discovery linked to the Forerunners that threatens the existence of the entire galaxy.

Halo: Hunters in the Dark will focus on a small coalition of human soldiers and Elites who are returning to the Ark and will have to uncover more of the mysteries of the place in order to find a solution, which will mean that life continues to exist in the known universe.

The new book will be introduced in June and Microsoft and 343 Industries have already said that it is designed to offer much needed background for Halo 5: Guardians and will give clues on how the narrative will evolve.

Hunt the Truth's Benjamin Giraud has been seen before in the Halo universe

The two companies are also giving lore-focused fans some more information on the journalist who is delivering the updates on the Hunt the Truth site, another one connected to Halo 5: Guardians.

They explain that "We first saw him at ground zero during the Covenant’s attack on Earth in the Halo Graphic Novel story Second Sunrise Over New Mombasa. What does he know? What does the UNSC know? What does ONI want to keep from us? Needless to say, there are many, many more questions than answers right now, but this is your chance to join the hunt."

The new site and the two trailers suggest that the story of the new title in the series will be told from two perspectives and the game might involve either parallel realities or time travel, linked to a major event.

Halo 5: Guardians is set to be launched on the Xbox One home console on October 27 of this year.
