Says Microsoft man

2009 has been marked by the price cuts enacted by all the three major console manufacturers, which tried to boost the number of consoles sold by making them attractive even during the recession, and by the fact that, for the last three months, the PlayStation 3 from Sony has managed to best the Xbox 360 from Microsoft in terms of sales. In November, the latter again came out on top and it seems that the software giant is looking for an even better performance in 2010.

Aaron Greenberg, who is the product director for the Xbox 360 at Microsoft, has said that he expects the company to again dominate most of 2010 with the release of Halo: Reach, which is being delivered by Bungie, and with the associated Xbox 360 sales that will be driven by it.

When asked whether Gran Turismo 5 might be an equally attractive exclusive for the PlayStation 3 from Sony, Greenberg stated that “Is it launching next year? I've seen years and years of minigames, but I haven't seen that the game is done. They just released the PSP version - maybe that's what they've been working on. I feel confident that there's nothing that will compare in size. Halo: Reach will be the biggest game of 2010.”

Of course, Sony is preparing to release more than just the long delayed Gran Turismo 5 in 2010. Massive Action Game, an online multiplayer shooter, is coming early in 2010, followed by God of War III, one of the titles that might drive a lot of PlayStation 2 holdouts to pick up the new Slim version of the PS3, and then Sony might also launch a new Killzone or Resistance title.

Still, the Halo universe is much loved by gamers and the chance to again control a Spartan, which might or might not be Master Chief, after inhabiting the body of an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, will generate a lot of sales amongst fans.
