Halo: Reach will receive a much-needed title update in October, as Microsoft and 343 Industries confirmed that it would add quite a lot of improvements in terms of gameplay, while bringing back the classic Magnum pistol from Halo: Combat Evolved.

Microsoft, the owner of the Halo franchise, made quite a few big announcements concerning the future of the series at last week's PAX conference, including the fact that next year's Halo 4 opens the "Reclaimer Trilogy", while November's Halo: Anniversary includes a variety of classic maps from the first Halo: Combat Evolved title.

Now, the company wants to make it clear that it's not forgetting about last year's Halo: Reach, and promised that a new title update is coming in October with many gameplay changes and tweaks.

First and foremost, however, is the fact that the fan favorite Magnum Pistol from Combat Evolved will make its way into the multiplayer mode of Reach, and is also included in the upcoming Halo: Anniversary a month later.

Besides this new weapon, plenty of changes have been made, from the duration of active camouflage to the target reticule.

"The update, which is targeted for release in October, will introduce several multiplayer fixes for Halo: Reach fans have been clamoring for," Microsoft revealed.

"Armor Lock now absorbs a level of damage based on the amount of remaining energy a player has, diminishing its effectiveness. Active Camo’s duration has been reduced and the ability to block sword attacks using any weapon other than another sword has been disabled. And for fans of precision firing, reticule “bloom” is now configurable, delivering increased accuracy when firing in rapid succession."

While Halo fans will be treated to quite a lot of great experiences in the future, it's nice to hear that Microsoft isn't forgetting about Halo: Reach owners, who only need to wait until October to finally get a title update and see many issues resolved.

This is horrible news. I'm a Halo 1 fan, and I knew that Halo 1 was about more than being able to kill people quickly with the pistol, although that was a major part of the game being quick-paced, and preventing guys from being reckless. There was also the fine balance of combat, with all weapons having a unique use, which also involved the grenades. Grenades do not exist in the new game... I don't consider things which bounce all over the place, and * up instantly and have tiny explosions to be grenades. Those are more like dice that people spam in the new game for free kills. My point is that the grenades in Halo 1 were large explosions, and blew up slowly, allowing you to effect the opponent's movements making him move away from the grenades into your shots, or into closer quarters, or into your shotgun shell, or into your plasma rifle shots which slowed the opponent down in the first one, allowing you to move to the side and move in for a melee finish if you were smart, ect. Every move in Halo 1 was strategizing with grenades, and the mechanics were far better, as you could run faster, your jumps didnt go as high, so people couldn't just jump in circles to avoid shots, and jumps were more realistic being quick, and falling quick. Every single move in Halo 1 was planned. It's nice that the pistol is brought back, which is a TINY plus, but Bungie must not realize that what makes a game a good game is the formula. Changing one element randomly, such as bringing back the pistol and changing nothing else, is a major MAJOR mistake, because now everyone will just spam the pistol which was not the case in Halo 1. All the weapons were better and unique in their own way, especially with grenades allowing you to move to closer quarters. The fact that Bungie doesn't even recognize this anymore, and thinks that every one of their games should revolve around charging in using one gun the entire time, proves that this company is full of morons who don't know how to make games anymore. Thats all I have to say about that.
