Bungie is one of the most prestigious studios in the world, but this is all due to the Halo franchise that the company has created. However, this is everything the first person shooter studio ever worked on, so many other developers want it to tackle new and interesting things.

But as the Halo franchise was sold to Microsoft, fans eagerly awaited an announcement about a new project from Bungie, though that wasn't going to happen, as the company revealed that it would work on an expansion to Halo 3, entitled Halo 3: ODST. After that, it seemed that this would be the last project, but at this year's E3 we saw that Halo: Reach would arrive next year.

Now, the senior designer from Bungie, Lars Bakken, reveals that it just might be the last project that the studio will ever do, in terms of the Halo franchise. “In terms of a platform for Halo games made by Bungie, yes. I can't answer that question for Microsoft though. Whether they have something in the works or not, I don't know if they're actually ready to talk about it yet, but in terms of Bungie-produced Halo games, ODST and then Reach is probably all you're going to get.”

However, do keep in mind that the statement is fairly ambiguous and leaves plenty of room for speculation, especially in terms of a potential add-on or expansion for Halo: Reach. Whether or not we will see new Halo titles from Bungie is still anybody's guess, but we do know for sure that the franchise will continue to be handled by Microsoft, meaning that it will expand its video game roots and tackle new entertainment mediums, like anime, with the most recent Halo: Legends project.

Overall, do you believe that Bungie will stop with the Halo franchise, or will the company continue to tinker with its biggest money-maker? Leave us a comment with your thoughts.

Yes, Bungie will need to end the series that has made millions if not easily billions of dollars. You have the video after the Halo 3 credits that supposedly show Onyx the Forerunner planet. If you know the basics of the halo storyline you'll know that the Forerunners created the halos and all those other structures. Master Chief turned out not to even be a human but a Forerunner. If there going to stop now they are just out of their god ambitious minds. Bungie needs to end the series in a dramatic way. Onyx carries remaining Spartans and Forerunners. Why would Bungie want to stop at such a great point in the story for some other video game company to finish it. I am kind of disappointed they'd make a video game prequel (Halo: Reach) instead of a video game sequel (Halo 4). I am dieing to meet the Forerunners in the story and to find out how Master Chief will react to discovering this planet. Bungie has opened a new world of doors and passage ways but stopping now would just be a idiotic move on their part. They should end the series with the main character (Master Chief) discovering the creator of it all (Forerunners). It would be the best way to end it, the smartest way to end it, and overall the most fun and interesting way to end a glorious and amazing video game series.

Ryan, wow, spot-on. Loved the comment and i too agree that Bungie needs to finish the goddamn story with Master Chief landing in Onyx...that would be supremely cool

Well i have always adored the Halo universe. I've been playing these games ever since i saw the original trailor of halo combat evolved. All of the games have meant everything to my gaming side, literally the best games/series in existance. Beta testing allowed me to preview these masterpieces before many others and it's been amazing. I would hate to say goodbye to my long time friends the Halo universe and master cheif and the rest. But like all great things it must end, but not like this, a "prequel"... seriously come on. I totally agree with the other comment. They should end it in an explosive and unexpected "halo 4" like following master chief and cortana, studying forerunners, or something like that. I seriously think they will be maling a mistake if they dont expand it to a sequel. If any other halo obsessed fool will tell you they can't end it here. If anyone wants to talk to me about this and see maybe if we get a group together to tell bungi or microsoft to do so, add or message me on my gamertag, gfryan. Thank you very much for reading this comment and as always best wishes to the "BEST" and "FANTASTIC" gaming series of halo.

This is to Ryan.......Master chief is NOT a FORERUNNER. Why don't you read the halo book series and learn that he is a human, taken from his parents and replaced with a flash clone. He was just a really athletic 5 year old when he was snatched and brought to the MJOLNIR armor project......we had already had 2 colonies glassed, way in deep space and knew that they were coming. Put the controller down and turn some pages.

Thank you someone who understands. I hate idiots who think master chief forerunners. If you tookpart in the iris campaign b4 halo 3s release you would know that during ancient times the forerunners came here to ducument us and when they needed to fire the halos they built the portal to the ark to protect us. WE ARE NOT DESCENDANTS OF FORERUNNERS. Jesus.

I don't know how legit this is, as I've not seen it anywhere else but here, but if it's true that Bungie is getting out of Halo, then I weep. It doesn't make sense to me that they would, for a number of reasons which I'm not going to bother listing. Secondly, a Halo game cannot be the same if made by anyone else. The magic will be absent, as it was in the epically terrible Halo Wars. Anyways, I doubt we've seen the end of Bungie + Halo. There is still so much room for growth and creation in the Halo empire. Just an opinion :D

Just to clarify the last post. Master Chief IS human, the halo storyline alludes to the fact the mankind is in fact the descendants of the Forerunner. On all your other points I agree except when you say you are disappointed about making Reach instead of Halo 4. They should make both as Reach is a great point in the storyline.

../hdh: Whether humans are or aren't descended from forrunners we may never know. But when Spark told the Chief he was Forrunner, It was because Spark had decided The Chief was of equal status to the forrunners both mentally and physically (Physically referring to build, not race).

i think that although bungie have used all of the timeline on explaining how the halo franchise started and finished, this does not mean that they have no more idea's, for instance, they can start to explain what happenned to the forerunners because all we know is that the flood had forced then to create a new universe, they can do a covanant campaign because all of the halo's have been about spartans or marines, why not do a campaign to explain how the brutes overthrew the elites or what happenned to all of the other profits and not just the profit of truth, maybe they could do a flood campaing, they have endless amounts of ideas which could make them more money, why stop a franchise if its getting better and better and more advanced then any other game produced, i have played all of the halo's and i am impressed on how advanced they have come, why stop now??
