Microsoft might not be willing to talk too much about the new Halo video game that’s being created for the Xbox One, but it seems that fans of the franchise will soon be able to learn more about a movie based on the Master Chief character that has just finished shooting a lot of scenes in Iceland.

A local newspaper report, which has been translated by users on NeoGAF, says that the movie is set to be launched at the same time as the coming video game in the series and that there’s also a possibility that it will get a limited theatrical release.

A producer is quoted as saying that, “First and foremost, we wanted to find a place that was remote and exotic but nonetheless unimaginable beautiful. Iceland has been used in projects of this type increasingly over the past decade and we see clearly why.”

The team has also chosen to work in Iceland because it has solid infrastructure and the professionals needed for such a project.

At least one of the characters featured in the movie will play a big role in the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians.

The producer adds, “We think it is important to create stories that attract new players in Halo-world. Also, we want to satisfy the demands of Halo players who already know the foundation in games and history. Our hope is that people who play both games and watch the movie will know better assess the new history of the character and mission. Everyone should however be able to enjoy the movie.”

Apparently, more shooting for the movie is supposed to take place in Ireland.

Microsoft has announced that it was working on two spin-off entertainment experiences based on Halo.

The first of them is supposed to be a television-like series that is created under the leadership of Steven Spielberg.

This means that the movie that has wrapped up filming in Iceland is the project that Ridley Scott, another famous science fiction focused director, is associated with.

Neither of the two currently has an official launch date, but they will be offered exclusively, at least for a period, to those who own an Xbox One home console and subscribe to the Live service.

Halo 5: Guardians is supposed to introduce a new threat to the galaxy and players will once more be able to control Master Chief and use his weapons and abilities to stop it.

The game is being created by a team at 343 Industries.
