More than $3 billion (around €2.3 billion) in revenue was earned by the series

Microsoft is getting ready to debut Halo 4 next week and has just offered a new series of figures concerning its popular shooter franchise, confirming that over 46 million copies had been sold worldwide, resulting in $3 billion (around €2.3 billion) in revenue.

Halo games have been extremely popular, managing to single-handedly promote Microsoft’s Xbox and Xbox 360 consoles to lots of new users.

Now, in order to lend more insight into the performance of the franchise, Microsoft has revealed a few interesting figures about the past Halo games.

According to the company, via Joystiq, over 46 million Halo titles have been sold worldwide since the release of the first one back in 2001.

Since then, the series has generated more than $3 billion (around €2.3 billion) in revenue and Xbox Live users logged over 5 billion hours into Halo games online.

Considering Halo 4 has been awaited for quite some time, you can expect all these figures to rise sharply come November 6, when the game is released for the Xbox 360.
