Microsoft has confirmed that it's working alongside famous moviemaker Ridley Scott on a "Halo digital feature project" that will be released this year and directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan.

The Halo series is one of Microsoft's biggest moneymakers and the publisher wants to bring it to as many screens as possible, not just through console games but also mobile and PC titles, not to mention other media adaptations like the Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn live action web series.

Now, after denying rumors about working with Ridley Scott on a Halo movie, Microsoft has confirmed that it has partnered with the famous producer for a Halo movie, although it's a digital one.

According to a statement from the company to GameInformer, Microsoft and its 343 Industries studio is working with producers Ridley Scott and David Zucker to create a "digital feature project" based on Halo.

The film will be directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, who previous directed some episodes of Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, or Pillars of the Earth.

No other details were made available and Microsoft promises to share more about the project at E3 2014.

It did note that this is different from the live action Halo TV series coming from Steven Spielberg.
