This is not the first time we've heard about a
Halo port and not just any port, but one for the famous Nintendo DS console. It all started when Matt Casamassina from IGN started describing his experience while playing the title, in its
unfinished version. No one believed him, since the man couldn't provide images and gameplay footage yet. Those skeptical people have now met their match since
Matt can provide you with a couple of screenshots and gameplay vids from Halo DS.
Too bad that the game got canceled and it was a pretty serious project, not some highschool boys learning how to develop a gaming hit. I have to say that the game doesn't look bad at all, considering it's a DS title and we tremble at the thought of a future possible (rather impossible)
PSP port. Maybe the project will be resurrected one day, but till then we're only left with videos and pictures to drool on. It's a shame that no one believed Casamassina and there was even a Wikipedia page, claiming that his blog about Halo DS was a huge speculation.
This goes to show that we, gaming editors must be taken seriously, when exploiting, dissecting and launching rumors, as there's a certain core of information included in them. Can't really imagine why they quit making Halo DS, considering the huge DS fanbase, its ever-growing sales and the popularity of
Halo 3. A hidden duel between Microsoft and Nintendo might have taken place and we don't even know it...
Sadly, Matt Casamassina didn't mention any producer or publisher for this deceased title and we're not even able to guess who's involved in such a major initiative. Till the next Halo port surfaces, we can only hope that some other major name from the industry manages to continue working on this unfinished masterpiece.
